The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Agona West, Eric Gyamfi Odoom, has commissioned two ultramodern kindergarten blocks for Agona Swedru AME Zion 'B' Basic and Agona Odom AME Zion schools. The project is part of a broader local government initiative aimed at enhancing early childhood education infrastructure and strengthening foundational learning within the municipality. During the commissioning ceremony, the MCE announced that these facilities are the first of several planned blocks intended to provide a conducive environment for young learners.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Odoom emphasized that infrastructure alone is not enough to secure a child's future. He highlighted the critical role of qualified teachers in the early stages of education and urged parents and community stakeholders to become more involved in their children's academic journeys. The MCE noted that a collaborative approach between the local assembly, the schools, and the community is essential for achieving long-term educational excellence in Agona West.
Religious and educational leaders expressed their gratitude for the new facilities. Rev. Thomas Arko Akwa of the AME Zion Church praised the partnership that brought the project to fruition and pledged the church's support for local enrollment drives to ensure the new blocks are fully utilized. Additionally, officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) were present to witness the handover, signaling the institutional support for the municipality's educational improvements.
While welcoming the new kindergarten blocks, the school administration pointed to remaining infrastructure gaps that require attention. Madam Isabella Ersie, the headmistress, formally requested the renovation of the existing Junior High School block, which she noted suffers from significant leaks during heavy rains. The assembly's future plans for the municipality include addressing such maintenance issues while continuing to expand the network of modern kindergarten facilities across Agona West.
