The Volta North Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals, identified as Etornam Vumadzi and Emmanuel Komlagah, in connection with a major narcotics trafficking operation. The arrest took place on Friday, January 30, 2026, after security officials intercepted a minibus transporting a significant quantity of illicit substances. During the operation, police discovered 648 individual parcels of suspected narcotics, marking a substantial breakthrough in the region's ongoing efforts to curb cross-border drug smuggling. The incident escalated when the suspects allegedly attempted to circumvent the law through bribery. According to reports from the regional command, the suspects offered the arresting officers significant sums of money, specifically GH¢150,000 and GH¢32,000, in a bid to secure their release and avoid prosecution. However, the police officers involved demonstrated high levels of integrity by declining the financial inducements and proceeding with the legal processing of the suspects. The failed bribery attempt has now been added to the list of charges against the duo, further complicating their legal standing. Currently, the two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the source and intended destination of the 648 parcels. The Volta North Regional Police Command has signaled its commitment to rooting out narcotics-related crimes, emphasizing that such operations are vital for maintaining regional security and public health. The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned before a court to face charges of narcotics trafficking and attempted bribery of public officers. This successful operation serves as a stern warning to criminal syndicates operating within the border regions of the Volta Region.
