Ghanaian Public Sector Developments: Volta MTTD Traffic Crackdown, Judicial Action on Recruitment Fraud, and Civil Service Excellence Awards

These actions were taken to strictly enforce Regulations 65 and 74 of the Road Traffic Regulation 2012 (LI 2180), which prohibit the use of unauthorized lights and sirens that often pose safety risks to other road users.

While the police focus on road safety, the Ghanaian judicial system is addressing historical cases of administrative fraud. An Accra Circuit Court recently granted bail of GH"350,000 to Thomas Dorkenu, a 60-year-old retired Fire Officer accused of orchestrating a massive enlistment scam. Dorkenu allegedly defrauded 60 unsuspecting applicants of GH"303,200 by promising them protocol-based enlistment into the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The case highlights ongoing efforts by the judiciary to sanitize the recruitment processes within the security services and hold former public officials accountable for their actions. The substantial bail amount reflects the severity of the charges and the large number of individuals affected by the alleged scheme.

In the realm of governance and administrative leadership, the Controller and Accountant-General, Kwasi Agyei, has been recognized for his exceptional service to the state. During the 2025 Civil Service Awards Ceremony held in Accra, Agyei was named the Best-Performing Head of Department.
