The UNIWIZ Foundation, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has concluded a comprehensive two-day Advanced Digital Skills Training program for ICT coordinators across the Greater Accra Region. Held from August 6 to 7, 2025, at the Methodist University in Dansoman, the initiative aimed to enhance digital literacy and the delivery of ICT education in schools. Supported by the Embassy of Switzerland, the program brought together ICT teachers and coordinators from various districts and senior high schools to equip them with advanced digital tools and practical teaching strategies.
Wisdom Larry Quarme-Doe, CEO of the UNIWIZ Foundation, emphasized during the training that the mere existence of ICT centers in schools is not enough to drive meaningful digital learning. He noted that while infrastructure is essential, the capacity of educators to maximize these facilities is what truly determines educational outcomes. This focus on teacher empowerment follows gaps identified through the National Juniors Challenge quiz program, which highlighted the necessity of upgrading the technical skills of those responsible for ICT instruction.
The training was organized as a collaborative effort involving the ModePlus Innovation Hub and Intellite IT Solutions. Key speakers at the event highlighted the role of educators as the primary drivers of digital transformation in Ghana, stressing that continuous capacity-building is vital for the nation's youth to compete in a tech-driven global economy. The Swiss Embassy's involvement underscores a commitment to ensuring Ghanaian children possess the necessary digital competencies for future success.
Looking ahead, the UNIWIZ Foundation has announced plans to expand this Advanced Digital Skills Training initiative to other regions across Ghana. By scaling the program nationally, the foundation and its partners aim to address regional disparities in ICT education and establish a robust framework for digital excellence in the Ghanaian school system. This move aligns with broader national goals to foster a tech-savvy workforce under the current administration.
