The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has announced immediate movement restrictions for loaded tipper trucks following a devastating road accident that claimed four lives, including an infant. The decision was reached during an emergency meeting convened by the Council to address growing road safety concerns in the municipality. The tragedy, which involved a tipper truck losing control and colliding with a passenger vehicle, has prompted local authorities to overhaul traffic management for heavy-duty vehicles to prevent further loss of life and improve overall safety for commuters.
Under the new directive, all loaded tipper trucks are strictly prohibited from using the AngloGold Junction route. Instead, operators are mandated to utilize the Teberebie Junction route, which has been designated as the primary corridor for these heavy vehicles. This strategic shift aims to divert heavy traffic away from high-density or high-risk areas where the recent fatal crash occurred. The mandate followed consultations between MUSEC and the Tipper Truck Operators Association, indicating a collaborative effort to ensure that commercial transport interests do not compromise public safety.
To ensure strict compliance, the Municipal Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has been tasked with monitoring the new routes and enforcing the directive. MUSEC has warned that any truck operator found violating the routing orders will face severe legal consequences and penalties. Beyond immediate enforcement, the Council has urged all stakeholders, including the general public and transport unions, to cooperate fully with the new measures. These restrictions represent a critical step in the municipality’s broader road safety strategy, prioritizing the protection of residents while maintaining the essential flow of industrial transport within the region.
