The Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACDT), in a strategic partnership with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and the Embassy of the Czech Republic, will launch the National Community Media Cyber Capability Building Project (NCMCCBP) on August 3, 2026. Set to be hosted at the National Communications Authority (NCA) Tower in Accra, the initiative aims to fortify Ghana’s digital landscape by enhancing the cybersecurity knowledge of community media practitioners. By targeting journalists, bloggers, and broadcasters at the local level, the project seeks to ensure that digital safety awareness permeates all levels of Ghanaian society and reaches beyond the major urban centers.\n\nSamuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication and Digital Technology, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address, underscoring the government’s focus on digital resilience under the administration of President John Mahama. The launch event will feature high-level panel discussions where experts will address the evolving nature of cyber threats and the necessity of collaborative efforts to safeguard the nation’s digital infrastructure. The involvement of the Czech Republic Embassy highlights a growing international partnership aimed at sharing best practices in cyber defense and digital transformation across the West African sub-region.\n\nBeyond the launch, the NCMCCBP will provide intensive, hands-on training for selected media professionals. This curriculum is specifically designed to equip participants with the skills to combat misinformation, recognize digital vulnerabilities, and promote responsible journalism in the digital age. Those who successfully complete the training will be awarded certifications and inducted into the newly formed Cyber Security Press Corps. This specialized group will serve as a vanguard for cybersecurity advocacy, ensuring that community-based reporting remains accurate and protective of the public interest.\n\nThe project marks a significant step in addressing the cybersecurity awareness gap that often exists between urban centers and rural communities. By empowering local storytellers with technical expertise, the ACDT and its partners are building a more resilient information ecosystem. As Ghana continues to expand its digital economy, such initiatives are vital for fostering a culture of digital safety and ensuring that every citizen—regardless of location—is better equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the modern internet.
