The Adenta Circuit Court has granted bail to Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a Senior Nursing Officer, following her three-week detention on charges of abetting the publication of false news. The case, which has gained significant public attention, centers on Baffoe's alleged involvement with the controversial social media account "Ghana Jollof," reportedly managed by Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, a suspect currently residing in the United Kingdom. Baffoe has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000.
Baffoe's arrest on September 13, 2026, sparked widespread concern regarding due process and security protocols. She was reportedly taken from her home in Hansua, in the Bono East Region, during a midnight operation by individuals claiming to be National Security operatives. The circumstances of her apprehension led to initial confusion, as local police and security authorities reportedly had no record of the operation, leaving her family in distress as they struggled to locate her for several days.
As part of the bail conditions, the court required Baffoe to provide two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants earning a minimum monthly salary of GH¢3,000. She is also mandated to report to the Hansua Police Station every two weeks. Her legal counsel, Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, praised the court's decision but noted that the legal struggle continues. He emphasized a commitment to defending Baffoe’s rights and proving her innocence against the allegations of facilitating false content circulation.
The announcement of her release was met with emotional celebrations from her family, including her mother and uncle, who expressed profound relief after three weeks of uncertainty. The reunion with her three children marks a pivotal moment for the family, though the legal proceedings are far from concluded. The Adenta Circuit Court has adjourned the case to February 17, 2027, as the prosecution and defense prepare for the next phase of the trial.
