Known affectionately as the "Goal Thief," Lamptey was a celebrated figure in Ghanaian football, having won five Premier League titles and represented the nation at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. The family visited GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku at the association's headquarters to convey the sad news. In response, the President and the Executive Council expressed their heartfelt condolences and commended Lamptey for his significant contributions to the sport in Ghana. Plans are currently being discussed for a fitting burial for the Hearts of Oak icon, who left an indelible mark on the game.
