National Communications Authority Extends 5G Spectrum License Deadline to August 27

The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana has announced a strategic extension for the application deadline of spectrum licenses critical to the deployment of 5G mobile broadband services. Initially scheduled for August 6, the new deadline has been moved to Thursday, August 27, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. This three-week extension provides prospective applicants with additional time to finalize their proposals, ensuring that the transition to the next generation of mobile connectivity is thorough and competitive.

In a bid to foster transparency and clarify the licensing process, the NCA has also released a "Consolidated Response" document. This publication directly addresses queries raised by interested parties and details specific amendments to the Request for Applications (RFA). The document is a result of feedback gathered during a Pre-Application Briefing held on July 27, where potential bidders sought clarity on technical requirements and regulatory milestones. By publishing these responses, the regulator aims to resolve any ambiguities and provide a fair environment for all stakeholders involved in the 5G rollout.

The 5G initiative is a cornerstone of Ghana’s digital agenda under the administration of President John Mahama, aiming to bolster the nation's telecommunications infrastructure which the NCA has overseen since 1996.
