NAVTRAC Launches VIP Protection Course as NADMO Delivers Critical Flood Relief to Volta Region

In a significant push for national security and humanitarian resilience, two of Ghana's key state agencies have launched major initiatives aimed at safeguarding personnel and supporting vulnerable communities. The Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) has inaugurated its maiden VIP Protection Course at the School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) to enhance the tactical capabilities of security forces. Simultaneously, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has deployed a massive relief operation in the Volta Region to assist thousands of individuals displaced by recent flooding. These actions reflect a dual-track government approach to managing internal security threats and natural disasters.

The NAVTRAC VIP Protection Course marks a milestone in military training, specifically designed to prepare personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies for high-stakes close protection operations. Led by expert instructors from the Special Boat Squadron, the curriculum covers a comprehensive range of theoretical and practical modules, including threat assessment, convoy drills, and emergency response. During the opening ceremony at the SMOPS Auditorium, Commanding Officer Commander Seth Dzakpasu emphasized the necessity of professionalism and teamwork in modern security. Naval Captain David Dela Kpetigo added that the initiative is vital for adapting to evolving security demands, ensuring that Ghanaian personnel remain capable of addressing sophisticated challenges.

While security forces refine their tactical skills, NADMO is focusing on urgent humanitarian needs in the Volta Region following devastating floods. The organization has distributed essential supplies to approximately 54,000 affected individuals across 12 districts. The relief package includes 2,000 mattresses, 6,000 mosquito nets, 2,000 bags of rice, and 400 bottles of cooking oil, among other items. The Volta Regional Minister and NADMO officials have been on the ground to oversee the distribution, stressing that these measures are part of an ongoing commitment to support victims and implement mitigation strategies to prevent future flooding disasters.

Together, these developments underscore the government’s commitment to maintaining both strategic stability and social welfare. By investing in specialized military training for VIP protection, the state is fortifying its leadership security, while the large-scale distribution of aid in the Volta Region demonstrates a responsive disaster management framework. As these programs continue, the focus remains on building a more resilient nation capable of protecting its citizens from both man-made security risks and the unpredictable impacts of climate-related events.
