In a major move to strengthen Ghana’s fight against narcotic drugs, Mood Data Service Limited (MDSL) has donated a substantial suite of Information Technology (IT) equipment to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC). This strategic contribution is designed to modernize the commission’s operational capabilities, focusing on enforcement, surveillance, and public education initiatives. As the commission navigates the complexities of modern drug trafficking and substance abuse, this infusion of technology represents a critical bridge between traditional law enforcement and data-driven security strategies.
The donation package is comprehensive, featuring 50 laptops, iPads, servers, printers, UPS units, projectors, and a specialized drone to enhance aerial monitoring. Receiving the equipment, NACOC Director-General Maj. Gen. Maxwell Obuba Mantey emphasized that the support comes at a crucial time when government resources are stretched thin. He clarified that the commission’s primary mission is to protect citizens from the scourge of narcotics rather than to intimidate them, asserting that enhanced technological infrastructure is essential for better record-keeping and maintaining international compliance standards.
MDSL Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Afari Danquah, highlighted that this donation is part of a broader vision for a digital-first approach to national security. He revealed plans for the development of a national incident reporting system, which will allow for more effective and real-time monitoring of narcotics-related incidents across the country. This project builds on MDSL’s established history with NACOC, having previously developed a medical screening data-capture portal that streamlined internal processes.
The partnership underscores the growing importance of private-sector collaboration in bolstering national security infrastructure. By integrating drones and advanced server systems into their workflow, NACOC is better positioned to intercept illicit activities and manage data with greater accuracy. This technological upgrade is expected to not only improve internal efficiency but also enhance Ghana’s reputation as a proactive partner in the global fight against international drug cartels and organized crime.
