Six Students Injured as Fire Destroys House Master's Apartment at Leklebi Senior High School

On July 21, a fire outbreak at Leklebi Senior High School in the Volta Region resulted in injuries to six students and the total destruction of a House Master's apartment. The blaze, which began in the late afternoon, prompted an immediate but dangerous response as students and staff attempted to contain the flames before professional firefighters arrived on the scene. The incident caused significant distress within the school community, though authorities have confirmed that the situation was eventually brought under control.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at approximately 4:21 p.m. and dispatched a team from the Hohoe Fire Station. Led by Divisional Officer Grade III (DO III) Bismark Hosu-Porbley, the fire crew arrived to find the apartment fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters worked strategically to suppress the inferno, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent school buildings and student dormitories, which could have led to a much larger catastrophe.

Medical reports indicate that six students sustained minor injuries while bravely attempting to extinguish the fire before the GNFS arrived. In addition to the injured students, two occupants of the apartment collapsed due to the shock of the incident. All eight individuals were transported to the hospital for urgent medical care. Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded, and all those affected have since been treated and released from medical custody.

While the immediate danger has passed, the cause of the fire remains undetermined. Fire investigators are expected to conduct a thorough assessment of the ruins to identify the source of the blaze. This incident highlights the ongoing need for enhanced fire safety protocols and equipment within educational institutions across Ghana to ensure the safety of both staff and students during such emergencies.
