The Kotobabi District Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000.00 to two electrical technicians employed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) following allegations of diesel theft. The accused, Daniel Ansah and Sampson Gyamfi, were charged with conspiracy and stealing after they were linked to the disappearance of 160 litres of diesel belonging to the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL). The fuel, valued at GH¢1,793.60, was reportedly siphoned from the airport's critical infrastructure. The alleged theft was discovered on January 18, 2026, by Foster Afloh, an officer from the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), during a routine inspection. According to the prosecution, the two technicians were apprehended while in the process of transporting the stolen fuel. It is alleged that the diesel was siphoned from the emergency power plants, which are vital for maintaining airport operations during electricity disruptions. During the initial police investigation, the accused reportedly admitted to the offense and guided investigators to the specific locations where the fuel was siphoned. However, appearing before the Kotobabi District Court on February 3, 2026, both Ansah and Gyamfi pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. The court, while granting bail, mandated that the defendants must report to the police three times a week to ensure their continued presence throughout the trial. The case has been adjourned to February 18, 2026, for further hearing. This incident underscores the importance of stringent internal monitoring within national installations like KIA, where the theft of resources intended for emergency power could pose significant operational risks. The GACL is expected to monitor the proceedings closely as the legal process unfolds to ensure accountability and the protection of state assets.
