Kakpeni D/A Basic School Receives Teacher Postings and Furniture Following Media Advocacy

Kakpeni D/A Basic School in the Kpandai District has received much-needed personnel and resources following media reports highlighting the extreme challenges faced by its staff and students. For months, the school operated with just one teacher, Mr. Samuel Donkor, who managed all 12 classes across various levels alone. In response to the public outcry generated by Graphic Online's reporting, the Ghana Education Service has now posted two additional teachers to the facility and provided furniture to alleviate the acute shortage that previously forced pupils to learn in uncomfortable conditions.

Mr. Donkor, often referred to as the "One Man Contractor" for his Herculean efforts, expressed profound gratitude for the intervention. He noted that the media coverage was instrumental in drawing the attention of local authorities, including the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kpandai, Haruna Abdul-Karim. During a recent visit to the school, the DCE acknowledged the impact of investigative reporting in identifying gaps in the district's educational infrastructure, leading to a swift governmental and organizational response to address the school's most pressing needs.

Despite these improvements, significant hurdles remain for the Kakpeni community. Mr. Donkor has pointed out that the school still lacks specialized subject teachers for the Junior High School (JHS) level, which is critical for preparing students for national examinations. The current staffing level, while improved, is still considered inadequate for the school's total enrollment and diverse curriculum requirements, prompting further appeals to the Ghana Education Service for additional personnel.

Beyond staffing, the community is leveraging the current attention to renew calls for broader infrastructure development. Residents have specifically requested the construction of a bridge over the River Dakar to facilitate safer and more reliable access to the school and healthcare facilities. While the recent support marks a positive turning point, the school community remains hopeful that continued advocacy will lead to the comprehensive development needed to provide a standard educational environment for the children of Kpandai.
