The National Media Commission (NMC) has officially appointed Dr. Isaac Okpoti Nai as the Managing Director of the New Times Corporation, with the appointment taking effect immediately. Dr. Nai brings a wealth of leadership experience to the corporation, which is responsible for publishing key national titles including the Ghanaian Times and The Spectator. With over 25 years of experience in management and governance, Dr. Nai previously served as the General Manager at the State Housing Company and has held various senior roles across both public and private sectors. He is a fellow of several professional accounting bodies and holds multiple advanced degrees, positioning him to lead the state-owned media organization through its next phase of development.
While the media landscape sees this significant leadership transition, the social services sector is facing urgent infrastructure challenges. The Chosen Children’s Centre has issued a public appeal for support to complete an unfinished building project that has been under construction for two years. Founder Abena Washington highlighted that the current state of the facility poses safety risks to the 65 children currently in the center's care. The orphanage, which grew out of a rehabilitation program for drug and alcohol addicts established 16 years ago, relies heavily on community and corporate donations to provide a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children.
The urgency of the infrastructure needs at the Chosen Children’s Centre was recently underscored during a visit by a 1985 alumni group, which provided donations to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Led by Prince Samuel Mensah, the group emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility and encouraged other organizations and NGOs to assist the facility in securing necessary building materials. These two developments—the professionalization of leadership at the New Times Corporation and the community-driven efforts to sustain social welfare institutions—reflect the diverse operational and humanitarian priorities currently shaping the Ghanaian public sphere.
