The Ghanaian government and private sector partners have launched a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening national security, improving urban infrastructure, and enhancing road safety. Under the leadership of the Police Management Board, Inspector-General Christian Tetteh Yohuno recently presided over the promotion of seven officers at the National Police Headquarters in Accra to boost operational readiness. Simultaneously, the Ministry of Transport has introduced the "Safe Journey" Road Safety 2026 Campaign, emphasizing the urgent need for professional training and protective gear for commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders to curb accidents across the country. Minister of Transport Joseph Bukari Nikpe highlighted that the government is also implementing new technology to monitor traffic violations, adding a critical layer of enforcement to protect citizens.
Efforts to modernize the nation's security infrastructure have received a significant boost from the private sector in the Upper East Region. Kacstone Records, a local music label, has fully funded the renovation of the Navrongo Divisional Police Headquarters. Managing Director Wenawome Duriyem Aborah stated that the facelift was essential to providing a conducive environment for officers, thereby enhancing their morale and efficiency. ACP Daniel Anane Amoah, the Divisional Commander, welcomed the intervention, noting that the structural improvements effectively address long-standing issues and will directly support the police's mission to safeguard the community.
In the capital, major infrastructure and sanitation works are underway to address perennial urban challenges. The Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly is currently supervising the construction of a 1.2 km underground storm drain from Hansonic Junction to Kaneshie First Light. Municipal Chief Executive Kalamu Musah Adamu acknowledged the short-term inconveniences for motorists but emphasized that the project will replace aging systems with a more efficient drainage network. Meanwhile, Minister Mahama Ayariga has announced a massive mobilization of over 100 trucks and specialized machinery to clear waste from the Korle Lagoon enclave. This environmental initiative includes scientific assessments using drone technology to ensure the effective relocation of waste to the Adepa Waste Management Centre at Nsawam.
These collective actions highlight a multi-faceted approach to national development, balancing physical infrastructure with institutional capacity building. From the implementation of high-tech traffic monitoring systems to community-led drainage improvements and police reforms, the government is prioritizing both public safety and environmental sustainability. As projects like the Hansonic storm drain and the Korle Lagoon cleanup progress, officials continue to urge citizens and transport operators to comply with new regulations and take responsibility for local waste management to ensure the long-term success of these national interventions.
