The Ghana Police Service has launched an intensive manhunt for an unidentified motor rider who escaped after being caught transporting a cache of arms and ammunition to Kpandai in the Northern Region. The incident occurred following a high-stakes surveillance operation where the suspect, sensing police presence, abandoned his motorcycle and the illegal cargo before disappearing into the surrounding area. According to intelligence reports, the suspect was operating a blue Royal motorcycle to ferry the weapons. Police personnel, acting on a tip-off, began tailgating the rider to intercept the delivery. Upon realizing he was being followed, the rider discarded several packages and the motorcycle to evade arrest. A subsequent search of the abandoned items revealed a significant haul, including one A-Tac shotgun, two Jojef shotguns, and approximately 500 rounds of ammunition. The items have since been secured by the regional police command as evidence. While the suspect successfully managed to lose his pursuers during the chase, the police have intensified their investigations to identify him and determine the intended destination or recipients of the lethal cargo. Authorities are currently processing the recovered firearms and motorcycle for forensic clues that could lead to an arrest. This development comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb the illegal flow of small arms and light weapons within the country, particularly in regions prone to land or chieftaincy disputes. The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public, especially residents of the Kpandai area, to provide any information that could assist in the apprehension of the suspect. Investigations remain active as the police work to dismantle the local arms trafficking network involved in this incident.
