Ghana Police Intensify Crime Crackdown with 54 Arrests in Kumasi and Arms Seizure in Tema as Fatal Juaso Crash Claims Three

In Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Command conducted a sweeping operation across crime-prone suburbs, resulting in the arrest of 54 suspects, including 11 Malian nationals. During the raid, officers recovered a significant cache of suspected narcotics, including various Tramadol tablets and quantities of dried leaves. Simultaneously, police in Tema successfully intercepted a suspected arms trafficker believed to be a key figure in an illegal syndicate. The operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a 9mm pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition, marking a major step in dismantling local arms networks. Investigations into violent crimes have also seen breakthroughs with the arrest of 25-year-old Seidu Masawudu, also known as Marshall. Apprehended near Bolgatanga, Masawudu is a primary suspect in the alleged gang-rivalry murder of Abdul Jabal Suleman in Obuasi. Meanwhile, in the Central Region, police are responding to a disturbing case of assault in Diaso, where a man named Enoch was recorded attacking an okada rider with a machete. The violent confrontation, which has sparked public outcry after surfacing on social media, was reportedly triggered by a domestic dispute involving the suspect's girlfriend. While the police focus on criminal elements, tragedy struck on the Kumasi-Accra highway near Juaso. A collision between a truck and a van resulted in the deaths of three individuals—two males and one female—while 15 others sustained varying degrees of injury. The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed that the crash occurred near the NEXT BON Gas station on July 13, 2026. As the injured recover in local hospitals, the Ghana Police Service maintains that operations against drug and arms trafficking will continue nationwide to ensure the safety of all citizens.
