Parliament Passes Bill to Establish National Defence University for Ghana Armed Forces

Parliament has officially passed a landmark bill to establish the National Defence University, a dedicated institution designed to elevate the academic and professional training of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). Announced by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, during the Government Accountability Series in Accra on July 20, 2026, the legislation marks the fulfillment of a long-held aspiration by the nation's military leadership. The bill currently awaits presidential assent, which will serve as the final step before the university begins its operational phase.

The proposed university is set to become a center of excellence, offering a robust curriculum that includes both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Key areas of study will encompass defense studies, national security, strategy, and leadership.
