Ghana’s financial and real estate sectors have reached a significant milestone with the National Homeownership Fund (NHF) resuming lending under its National Mortgage Scheme at an 8.4% interest rate. Announced by CEO Prosper Hoetu during the NHF’s 4th Annual General Meeting in Accra, this represents the first single-digit cedi mortgage rate in over 30 years. The initiative, reviewed in partnership with Republic Bank, aims to drastically improve home financing accessibility for Ghanaian workers. This shift toward financial inclusivity is mirrored by a new directive from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). Director-General Kwesi Afreh Biney has called on all subsidiaries, such as Trust Logistics Limited (TLL), to embrace innovation and become financially self-sufficient, warning that the Trust can no longer provide routine bailouts for poorly managed entities.
In the corporate arena, excellence and social responsibility remain at the forefront of the national agenda. The 11th edition of the Corporate Ghana Hall of Fame recently honored distinguished leaders, including Mr. Kofi Amoako Attah, Founder of the SIM Group of Companies, for his contributions to the technology and tourism sectors. The ceremony, held under the theme "Enhance Government-Business Relationship to Grow the Economy," emphasized the importance of professional integrity. Simultaneously, the Labadi Beach Hotel marked its 35th anniversary with a community feast at the Al Aziz Central Mosque in Burma Camp, signaling a commitment to corporate social responsibility and strengthening ties with the Ghana Armed Forces.
However, industry leaders are also highlighting critical hurdles to growth, particularly in the tourism sector. The Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), led by Madam Yvonne Donkor, has urged the government to review the $260 online visa fee, describing it as a deterrent to international visitors compared to more competitive regional rates. While welcoming initiatives like extended heritage site hours, TOUGHA maintains that high entry costs remain a barrier. This discussion on value and accessibility is echoed in the real estate sector by Architect Akua Birmeh, who advises prospective homeowners to prioritize location and proximity to essential amenities over house size to ensure long-term quality of life and reduced commuting costs.
Looking toward future development, the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS) has scheduled the second National Procurement and Supply Chain Conference (NPSC 2026) for September 2026. The event will focus on building resilient and smart supply chains as a driver for national transformation. Beyond domestic borders, global markets are seeing significant shifts: South Korea’s Incheon International Airport has emerged as the world’s busiest for international traffic, while in the tech and sports sectors, Trump Media reported a widened quarterly loss of $238 million, and Leicester City Football Club has been put up for sale for over £200 million by its owners, King Power.
