The Ghanaian educational landscape is undergoing a multifaceted transformation as stakeholders intensify efforts to promote student safety, provide financial relief, and encourage practical industry exposure. At a recent seminar in Accra organized by WiLDAF, school proprietors and representatives addressed the critical issue of School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV). Professor Simon Peter Kafui Aheto called for a significant shift in how schools handle abuse, urging heads to abandon 'internal settlements' in favor of formal reporting mechanisms and gender-responsive workplace policies. This push for a safer environment is mirrored by efforts in the Volta Region, where Regional Director of Gender Thywill Eyra Kpe recently mentored adolescent girls from broken homes, encouraging them to prioritize their careers and educational dreams over short-term distractions. These initiatives collectively aim to foster a supportive and resilient atmosphere for students nationwide. Supporting the academic journey of high achievers remains a core priority, as demonstrated by the Miafe Fiawo Scholarship award. The Rev. Emile Doe Dogbe-Gakpetor Memorial Foundation recently presented six senior students, including David Zungbey and Rafaela Selasi Djopo, with GH₵ 5,000 each for their excellence in the 2026 BECE. Meanwhile, in the professional sphere, the diversity of educational paths was highlighted by the graduation of popular comic actor Opoku Bilson from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Known primarily for his entertainment career, Bilson successfully completed his studies to become a Registered Nurse, serving as an inspiration for students to pursue diverse professional goals. Education is also expanding beyond traditional classrooms through international exchange and industry immersion. A delegation from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, recently visited the Sewia Mining & Refinery in Accra to gain firsthand experience in gold smelting and processing. This focus on practical knowledge aligns with global educational trends discussed at the International Festival of Youth in Ekaterinburg, where experts emphasized the necessity of critical thinking in the era of Artificial Intelligence. Andrei Fursenko, an aide to the Russian President, highlighted that fostering skepticism and verification skills in students is essential to navigating the 'post-truth' era and distinguishing digital misinformation from reality. Together, these developments signal a holistic approach to preparing the next generation for both professional success and civic responsibility.
