Ghana Education Service Releases 2026 Teacher Recruitment Results Following Pressure from Applicant Coalitions

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially commenced the release of recruitment application statuses for teacher applicants, effective July 24, 2025. This development follows a period of intense anticipation and public calls for transparency from various stakeholders within the education sector. To manage the expected high volume of traffic to the recruitment portal and ensure a smooth user experience, the GES implemented a phased release schedule. Early childhood and primary school applicants were granted access to the portal at 5:00 p.m., while Junior High and Senior High School applicants were scheduled to check their status from 9:00 p.m. the same day.

This announcement comes in the wake of formal demands from the Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers 2023 (CUTT 2023), who had petitioned the government for an urgent update after previous recruitment timelines expired. The coalition pointed out that the Minister for Education had committed to the July 24 release date following technical challenges that had caused several postponements. In its official communication, the GES expressed appreciation for the patience shown by the thousands of trained teachers awaiting their outcomes, emphasizing the service's commitment to streamlining the placement process.

Parallel to the new recruitment drive, the GES has also launched applications for the 2026 "Study Leave With Pay" program, intended to bolster the professional development of existing staff. This initiative specifically targets teachers pursuing approved programs in critical subject areas such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and various vocational fields to address existing staffing gaps in the second-cycle institutions. To be eligible, applicants must have completed a minimum of three years of active service and receive a formal recommendation from their immediate supervisors or heads of institutions.

All applications for the study leave program are to be submitted through district and regional education offices, with a final deadline for submissions set for October 30, 2026. These combined efforts—the recruitment of new personnel and the advancement of current staff—are central to the government's broader strategy to enhance the quality of education and stabilize the teaching workforce across the country. As the recruitment phase concludes, the GES is expected to provide further directions for successful candidates regarding their postings and induction into the service.
