Bono East Regional Minister Francis Owusu Antwi has conducted an inspection of a 74-kilometre road network currently under construction in the Nkoranza North District. These projects are being executed under the government’s "Big Push" initiative, a strategic infrastructure program designed to accelerate development through investment in transport networks. During his tour of the project sites, the Minister evaluated the progress of various construction works, emphasizing the importance of these roads in unlocking the economic potential of the region.
The Minister highlighted that the primary objective of these infrastructure improvements is to revitalize the local ecotourism sector, which has faced significant challenges due to dilapidated road conditions. Mr. Antwi noted that key attractions, such as the famous Buabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, have struggled to attract the desired number of visitors because of the difficult journey required to reach them. By addressing these transport bottlenecks, the government aims to increase revenue from tourism and provide a more seamless experience for visitors exploring the region's natural heritage.
In addition to boosting tourism, the 74-kilometre road network is expected to have a profound impact on the local agricultural and commercial sectors. The Minister praised the "Big Push" initiative for its role in facilitating the movement of goods and people, which he described as essential for regional growth. Construction activities are currently taking place across several major roads within the network, with various contractors working to meet specified timelines. Mr. Antwi expressed satisfaction with the progress observed and commended the initiative for addressing long-standing transport grievances.
The completion of these road projects is seen as a vital step toward the broader socio-economic transformation of the Bono East Region. As the government continues to prioritize infrastructure development, the Regional Coordinating Council is tasked with ensuring that the works are executed to the highest standards. The Minister concluded that the improved connectivity would not only promote ecotourism but also enhance the overall quality of life for residents by reducing travel times and improving access to essential services.
