The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated a series of planned maintenance works and emergency repairs across several regions, leading to scheduled power outages on Tuesday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 10, 2026. These disruptions are part of the utility provider's ongoing efforts to improve the robustness of the national grid and address specific technical faults. Major metropolitan areas, including Accra and Tema, as well as several other key regions, are expected to experience intermittent supply as technical teams work to enhance the distribution network's reliability.
On Tuesday, June 9, the maintenance schedule primarily affected parts of the Eastern, Tema, Accra East, Accra West, Volta, and Ashanti Regions. Most of these operations were scheduled to take place between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. In addition to the planned works, ECG reported fault-related outages in the Western and Ashanti West Regions, where technical teams were deployed to address unforeseen infrastructure challenges. The outages are set to continue into Wednesday, June 10, with maintenance activities and transformer fault repairs impacting the Ashanti, Tema, Accra East, Accra West, Volta, and Western Regions from early morning until the evening.
The utility company has attributed these interruptions to a combination of routine system maintenance and the rectification of specific transformer faults that have compromised supply stability in certain sectors. According to ECG, these interventions are necessary to ensure the long-term integrity of the distribution network and to prevent more prolonged, unplanned blackouts in the future. While the outages are temporary, they highlight the critical need for constant infrastructure monitoring and periodic upgrades to meet the growing energy demands of residential and industrial consumers.
ECG has issued a formal apology to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused by these disruptions and has urged residents and businesses in the targeted zones to make alternative power arrangements where necessary. Engineers are reportedly working on-site across the affected regions to ensure that power is restored immediately upon the completion of the scheduled works or once technical faults are rectified. The company has assured the public that its teams are committed to completing the maintenance within the stipulated timeframes to minimize the impact on daily activities.
