A 15-year-old female student at Assin Krofofrodo D/A Basic School is currently at the center of a school-based tragedy after allegedly using a cutlass to injure a male classmate who she claims repeatedly harassed her. The incident, which occurred during a school clean-up exercise, resulted in deep wounds for the victim and has sparked a heated debate over supervision and safety protocols within the Ghana Education Service (GES). Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the full circumstances and responsibilities surrounding the event.
In the wake of such student-on-student violence, the Volta Regional Peace Council has intensified its outreach to educational institutions to foster a culture of non-violence among the youth. Under the theme "Understanding Conflict and Building Peaceful Co-existence," the Council has engaged students at Nkonya Senior High School, E.P. Technical Institute Alavanyo, and Sonrise Christian High School. Reverend Seth K. Mawutor, speaking during these sessions, emphasized that lasting harmony begins with individual responsibility, urging students to reject bullying and embrace dialogue. These programs aim to equip students with practical peer mediation and conflict resolution skills to prevent the escalation of minor disputes into physical altercations.
