Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the Member of Parliament for Karaga and former Finance Minister, has officially commissioned the Masjid Al-Noor mosque in Tamale, Northern Region. This landmark facility, which stands as one of Ghana's largest Islamic prayer centers, marks a significant milestone for the Muslim community in the northern sector. The commissioning ceremony was attended by a high-powered delegation, including religious leaders and top government officials, signaling the national importance of the project in fostering both spiritual growth and social infrastructure.
The architectural marvel boasts a seating capacity of 6,000 worshippers within its main halls, with additional outer grounds designed to accommodate a further 4,000 people during peak periods such as Friday prayers and Eid festivities. To ensure the sustainable operation and maintenance of the facility, Dr. Amin Adam announced a substantial personal donation of GHS 300,000. He was joined at the event by Former Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who contributed an additional GHS 200,000 toward the mosque’s upkeep and operations. The ceremony was further dignified by the presence of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.
Beyond its primary function as a place of spiritual reflection and prayer, Masjid Al-Noor is envisioned as a multifaceted hub for community progress. The facility features dedicated study rooms and resources specifically designed to host educational programs and youth training initiatives. During his address, Dr. Amin Adam emphasized that the mosque should serve as a vibrant center for learning and development, rather than just a building for religious rituals. Similarly, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the mosque's potential to play a dual role in the spiritual and social lives of residents, acting as a catalyst for local youth empowerment and intellectual growth.
The completion of Masjid Al-Noor represents a collaborative effort involving numerous contributors, whom Dr. Adam thanked for their dedication to the project. As Tamale continues to grow as a major economic and cultural center in Ghana, facilities like these are expected to strengthen social cohesion and provide essential infrastructure for moral guidance and community development. The mosque's integrated approach to education and worship aligns with broader goals of providing inclusive spaces for the youth to thrive within the Northern Region.
