GMet Issues National Weather Alert: Heavy Thunderstorms and Mist Expected Across Ghana
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a comprehensive weather forecast for Friday, predicting a complex mix of thunderstorms, light rainfall, and significantly reduced visibility across the country. While northern Ghana is expected to experience intense thunderstorms and rain early in the morning, southern regions will grapple with heavy mist and fog. These conditions are anticipated to create challenging environments for both travelers and residents, necessitating a high degree of caution as the weather patterns fluctuate throughout the day. Regional variations remain a key feature of the current forecast. In the northern sector, particularly the extreme Upper West region, thunderstorms are expected to persist, though afternoon conditions may turn mostly sunny with temperatures peaking at approximately 35°C. In contrast, coastal cities including Accra and Cape Coast are slated for periods of light rainfall. The middle belt, encompassing communities such as Ho and Koforidua, may see temporary relief in the early afternoon, but GMet warns that thunderstorms are likely to redevelop in these areas later in the evening. Across the country, minimum temperatures are expected to hover between 22°C and 25°C. Safety remains a primary concern for the agency, which has specifically cautioned motorists to exercise extreme care due to the morning mist and fog affecting forested and mountainous areas. Reduced visibility poses a significant risk for early morning commuters and long-distance drivers. Additionally, sea users and those involved in marine activities are urged to be cautious as rough sea conditions are expected to persist. GMet advises the general public to monitor weather updates closely, as conditions are expected to gradually improve before potentially deteriorating again by nightfall.
