The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, is scheduled to attend the 2026 Hogbetsotso Za festival in Anloga as the Special Guest of Honour on November 7. His high-profile participation is intended to foster and strengthen the cultural ties between the Gonja and Anlo traditional areas, bridging the northern and southern parts of the country through shared heritage. This visit highlights a commitment to inter-ethnic cooperation and mutual respect between two of Ghana's prominent traditional authorities.
The Hogbetsotso Za festival remains one of the most significant cultural events in Ghana, commemorating the Ewe people’s historic exodus from Notsie to their present-day settlements. The celebration will be headlined by a grand durbar, featuring a diverse array of traditional displays, ceremonial music, and the signature Agbadza dance. As the Guest of Honour, the Yagbonwura will join the Awomefia of the Anlo State and other traditional leaders in a display of unity that emphasizes the richness of Ghana's diverse cultural landscape.
This year’s festivities are being held under the theme "Anlo, Our Heritage and Our Values: Striving to Build One Ghana for a Better Tomorrow." This theme underscores the importance of utilizing cultural identity as a tool for national development and social cohesion. By bringing together leaders from different regions, the festival serves as a platform for cultural exchange and reinforces the message that traditional values are essential for building a unified and prosperous nation.
