Ghanaian actress Xandy Kamel has shared a poignant and tragic account of the death of her first son, who drowned at Sakumono Beach in Accra. The incident occurred shortly after the young boy had completed his Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), a time meant for celebration that turned into a profound family tragedy. Speaking in a recent interview, Kamel reflected on the emotional weight of the loss and the difficult circumstances surrounding the timing of his burial. In a conversation with fellow actress and host Emelia Brobbey, Kamel explained that her son had gone to the beach with friends to mark the end of his examinations. The outing proved fatal, leading to his untimely death. Kamel’s narrative highlighted a particularly painful coincidence: she discovered later that her son’s burial took place on the same day she was unknowingly celebrating her ex-husband’s birthday. This revelation added a layer of irony and grief to an already devastating situation, as she remained unaware of the funeral arrangements at that exact moment. The actress’s decision to open up about this personal loss provides a glimpse into the private struggles she has faced behind the scenes of her public life. Her story serves as a somber reminder of the safety risks associated with post-examination celebrations at coastal areas, which often see influxes of students. By sharing her experience, Kamel brings attention to the lasting impact of such tragedies on families and the resilience required to navigate the grieving process while maintaining a public persona in the Ghanaian entertainment industry.
