Innocent Kpeglo, a 36-year-old taxi driver, was apprehended by the Ho West District Police in the Volta Region on January 31 after a failed attempt to bribe law enforcement officers. The arrest occurred during a targeted operation triggered by a tip-off, which led to the discovery of a significant quantity of suspected narcotics. In a desperate bid to evade justice, Kpeglo allegedly offered the officers GH¢5,000, but the police rejected the bribe and proceeded with the arrest, underscoring a commitment to professional integrity.
The incident unfolded as the suspect was reportedly transporting illegal substances from Dzolokpuita toward Ho. Acting on intelligence, police officers conducted surveillance and successfully intercepted Kpeglo’s vehicle. Upon being stopped, the suspect reportedly confessed to carrying the narcotics and attempted to negotiate his release with the cash offer. A subsequent search of the taxi revealed 37 parcels of dried leaves, which authorities believe to be marijuana.
Following the seizure and his initial confession, Kpeglo was transferred to the Volta Regional Police Headquarters for further processing and interrogation. He currently remains in custody and is facing formal charges related to the possession of narcotic substances and the attempted bribery of public officers. The case is being prepared for court proceedings, as regional authorities continue to investigate the source of the illicit goods and the intended distribution network.
