A total of 526 young individuals in the Volta Region have successfully graduated from the Precision Quality Internship Programme, marking a significant milestone in efforts to curb youth unemployment through specialized vocational training. The six-month initiative was a collaborative effort between Precision Quality, the Design and Technology Institute (DTI), and Ho Technical University (HTU). Supported by the Mastercard Foundation, the program targeted youth aged 18 to 35, equipping them with a blend of technical expertise and entrepreneurial mindsets necessary to succeed in Ghana's evolving economic landscape.
The comprehensive training curriculum spanned several high-demand sectors, including precision welding, hospitality management, and fashion design, alongside core business and employability skills. Participants benefited from a multi-faceted learning approach that included online training, hands-on mentorship, and access to a dedicated incubation hub. Mr. Christian Yao Amexo, the Regional Centre Manager, noted that the program’s design ensures graduates are not just job seekers but are prepared to meet global industry standards in their respective crafts.
To support the transition into the workforce, graduates were provided with starter kits valued at approximately $600 to help launch their own businesses. The program also highlighted the potential for scaling these ventures, as evidenced by successful graduates like Mr. John Kporfor, who utilized $1,000 in seed funding to expand his agricultural enterprise. During the graduation ceremony, exceptional interns were recognized for their performance, underscoring the program’s emphasis on excellence and the practical application of skills.
In their closing addresses, officials and organizers urged the graduates to leverage the power of collaboration and teamwork to sustain their new ventures. By moving beyond traditional employment and embracing the role of job creators, these young professionals are expected to play a vital role in local economic development. The success of this cohort reinforces the importance of public-private partnerships in bridging the skills gap and providing sustainable pathways for the youth of Ghana.
