The United States Embassy in Accra has announced a scheduled suspension of most routine consular services to accommodate essential facility maintenance. The temporary pause is set to take effect from July 20 to July 31, 2026, affecting a wide range of services for both visa applicants and U.S. citizens residing in or visiting Ghana. Normal operations and routine appointments are expected to resume fully on August 3, 2026, following the completion of the maintenance work.
During this two-week period, several specific services will be unavailable to the public, including routine visa processing, walk-in notarial services, and the processing of Consular Reports of Death Abroad. To mitigate the impact on those with ongoing applications, the embassy has confirmed that adult passport renewals submitted via the drop box system will continue to be processed. Furthermore, individuals with documents already cleared for pickup may collect them on Thursdays during the suspension window, specifically between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Despite the reduction in routine services, the embassy will maintain its capacity to handle urgent matters. Emergency consular assistance for U.S. citizens will remain available, and those in need of immediate help can reach the embassy’s duty officer at +233 (0) 30 274 1000. Public officials advise all stakeholders and travelers to plan their applications and documentation needs accordingly to avoid delays. For the most current information and specific instructions regarding the maintenance period, the public is encouraged to regularly consult the official U.S. Embassy website.
