Upper West Police Dismantle Motorbike Theft Syndicate, Recover 17 Stolen Vehicles in Wa

The Upper West Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended a seven-member gang suspected of operating an organized motorbike theft syndicate within the Wa Municipality. In a significant blow to local criminal activity, security forces recovered 17 stolen motorbikes following a series of targeted, intelligence-led operations. This crackdown comes as part of an intensified effort by the Ghana Police Service to address property crime and restore a sense of security for residents in the regional capital.

The investigation was officially triggered by a report filed on July 11, 2026, concerning a motorbike theft that took place on the premises of the Ghana National Fire Service. Using this report as a lead, police officers tracked the suspects to various locations across the municipality. Among those taken into custody is Nasiru Muftawu, who, along with his accomplices, is believed to have been central to the syndicate's operations. The recovery of 17 vehicles suggests a well-coordinated network that had been targeting unsuspecting motorists over a period of time.

Following their arrest, the suspects were brought before a court and have been remanded in custody pending their next appearance, scheduled for August 11, 2026.
