The Upper East Regional Police Command has successfully dismantled a notorious robbery gang responsible for a series of violent crimes across the region, including the murder of a police officer. The breakthrough occurred during a high-stakes intelligence-led operation in the Tilly Forest, where law enforcement officials engaged the criminal syndicate in a fierce gun battle. This operation marks a significant victory for regional security, as the gang had long terrorized residents, specifically targeting mobile money vendors and motorbike riders in various local communities. During the confrontation in the forest, the suspects opened fire on the police team, leading to a tactical response from the officers. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, three suspects sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The operation was not without cost to the security forces, as two police officers also sustained injuries while performing their duties. Currently, six other members of the gang are in police custody, assisting with investigations as the authorities work to uncover the full extent of the group’s criminal network. A search of the scene and subsequent raids yielded a significant cache of illicit items. Police retrieved several weapons, including guns and various types of ammunition, alongside a fleet of motorbikes believed to have been stolen during previous robberies. This gang is particularly notorious for its specialized focus on mobile money operators and for the violent theft of motorbikes, which often serve as the primary mode of transport for residents. The recovery of these items provides critical physical evidence to link the suspects to multiple unsolved cases in the Upper East Region. The Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to flushing out remaining members of the syndicate and ensuring the safety of the public. Authorities have issued a public appeal, urging residents and medical facilities to report any individuals seeking treatment for suspicious gunshot wounds. As investigations continue, the police are optimistic that the dismantling of this group will lead to a marked decrease in violent crime and provide justice for the family of the fallen officer and the numerous victims of the gang's robberies.
