Uganda Airlines is scheduled to officially enter the Ghanaian aviation market on October 27, 2026, launching a new service connecting Entebbe International Airport to Kotoka International Airport in Accra. The national carrier will operate four flights per week, a move expected to significantly enhance connectivity between East and West Africa. This expansion marks a strategic milestone for the airline as it seeks to strengthen its footprint across the continent.
The new service will utilize a Boeing 737-800 aircraft and will operate via Lagos, Nigeria. By including a stop in Lagos, the airline aims to maximize passenger loads and facilitate smoother transitions between major African hubs. Tickets for the upcoming service are already on sale, with the airline offering promotional return fares to attract early bookings and establish a competitive presence against existing carriers on similar routes.
Beyond the direct link between Uganda and Ghana, the new Accra route is designed to provide seamless connections for travelers heading to other key destinations. Passengers from Accra will be able to connect through Entebbe to Nairobi, London, and more than 17 other locations across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. This network expansion is intended to support business travelers, tourists, and families, fostering closer ties between the two regions.
The introduction of these flights comes at a time when regional integration is a priority under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Aviation experts suggest that Uganda Airlines’ entry could intensify competition in the West African sub-region, potentially leading to more affordable airfares for consumers. By improving trade and tourism links, the service is expected to provide a boost to local businesses and regional investment, further integrating the economies of East and West Africa.
