The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) has achieved a significant milestone by being ranked the best law school in Ghana and West Africa, and sixth overall in Africa, according to the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for Law, released on January 21, 2026. This prestigious ranking places UGSoL in the "251–300 global band," making it the only law school from Ghana to be featured in this assessment, which evaluated 425 universities across 53 countries using 18 performance indicators.
The rankings highlight the dominance of South African institutions, with the University of Cape Town leading the top five. Established in 1959, UGSoL is the oldest law school in Ghana and is recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, quality teaching, and impactful research. This recognition aligns with the University of Ghana's strategic goals for 2024–2029, which focus on enhancing global visibility and maintaining high educational standards.
