UBA Ghana has launched a month-long health initiative aimed at raising awareness for breast cancer, with staff members across its branches wearing pink attire every Monday throughout October. The campaign, which aligns with global Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities, is designed to highlight the life-saving benefits of early disease detection and provide employees with the necessary tools for proactive health management.
The initiative is being spearheaded by the U-Lionesses, the bank’s internal women’s network. To move beyond symbolic support, the group partnered with healthcare professionals to deliver educational sessions and practical demonstrations for the workforce. These activities focused on teaching employees how to perform effective self-examinations and understanding the clinical markers that necessitate professional medical attention, emphasizing that knowledge is the first line of defense against the disease.
In addition to the educational components, UBA Ghana organized free breast cancer screenings for its workforce in collaboration with medical experts. This corporate wellness intervention ensures that staff have direct access to preventative care during their work hours, removing common barriers such as cost or scheduling conflicts that often prevent regular check-ups. By facilitating these medical screenings, the bank aims to reinforce the message that regular monitoring is the most effective strategy for managing health risks and improving survival rates.
UBA Ghana emphasized that the health and well-being of its employees remain a primary corporate priority, noting that early detection significantly improves the success of treatment outcomes. Through this sustained October campaign, the bank joins a broader movement of corporate entities in Ghana working to reduce breast cancer mortality through increased public education, the normalization of regular medical screenings, and the fostering of a supportive environment for those affected by the disease.
