Dr. Ignatius James Batwala, a distinguished gynecologist and former health minister of Busoga Kingdom, died on the night of October 4, 2023, at the age of 89. His passing occurred shortly after he returned home from a burial in Iganga District, where he had appeared to be in good health. Upon arriving at his residence in Ntinda, he reported feeling unwell and collapsed while attempting to exit his vehicle. Despite immediate first aid efforts and a rush to Mulago Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Dr. Batwala, who celebrated his 89th birthday in November, was renowned for his extensive contributions to both public and private medical practice. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, and tributes are expected to pour in from colleagues and the community as they mourn the loss of a respected figure in the medical field.
