Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, the Paramount Chief of the Klefe Traditional Area, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize environmental sustainability and technical proficiency as essential pillars for national growth. Speaking at the Yam Festival in Ho, the traditional leader emphasized the urgent need to adopt eco-friendly practices to safeguard the environment for future generations. He linked environmental health directly to community prosperity, urging a return to traditional conservation values that once protected Ghana’s natural resources from degradation.
Central to the Chief's address was a proposal to modernize the nation's educational framework by integrating green technology into technical and vocational training. Togbe Koku Dzaga XI argued that equipping the youth with sustainable technical skills is the most effective way to address contemporary environmental challenges while fostering economic independence. He noted that the degradation of natural resources has become a critical concern, making the fusion of traditional environmental wisdom and modern green technology a necessity rather than an option.
Beyond environmental advocacy, the Paramount Chief expressed deep concern over the rising trend of substance abuse among the youth. He urged communities and local leaders to take active responsibility for the moral upbringing of children, steering them away from negative influences and toward productive endeavors. By promoting technical skills development, the Chief believes the youth can be empowered to contribute meaningfully to their communities instead of falling victim to social vices.
The Yam Festival served not only as a cultural celebration but also as a platform for development, with funds raised during the event earmarked for infrastructure improvements at the Klefe Technical Institute. Togbe Koku Dzaga XI concluded by appealing to the government and international donors for additional support to enhance the institute's capacity. He stressed that investing in educational infrastructure is vital for producing the skilled labor force required to drive the region’s development initiatives forward.
