Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), has been arrested in the United States as part of an extradition process initiated by Ghana. Confirmed by Victor Smith, Ghana's Ambassador to the USA, Tamakloe-Attionu was detained by US Marshals on January 6, 2026, and is currently held at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre. She faces charges related to her conviction for embezzling GH¢3.19 million, which resulted in significant financial losses to the Ghanaian state, estimated at GH¢90 million. Tamakloe-Attionu was sentenced to 10 years in prison in April 2024 but failed to return to Ghana after traveling to the US for medical treatment in 2021. The extradition request, submitted by Ghanaian authorities in July 2024, is now underway, with further details on court proceedings yet to be disclosed. In a separate development, the Ministry of the Interior has extended the nationwide Gun Amnesty Programme to January 30, 2026, to encourage the surrender of illicit firearms and enhance public safety, following strong public interest in the initiative.
