In a significant boost to community healthcare delivery across Ghana, the Rotary Club of Accra Airport Enclave and the Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, Hon. Nikyema Billa Alamzy, have made substantial contributions to local health facilities. These philanthropic efforts highlight an increasing trend of collaborative support aimed at addressing critical infrastructure and equipment gaps within the national health system, particularly in the areas of maternal care and rural accessibility.
In Accra, the Rotary Club of Accra Airport Enclave donated a specialized phototherapy machine to the Ussher Hospital to enhance the treatment of neonatal jaundice among newborns. Joyce Abankwa, President of the club, noted that the gesture is a reflection of Rotary’s global commitment to community service and health. Dr. Philomina Bonsu, Medical Superintendent of Ussher Hospital, expressed profound gratitude for the donation, emphasizing that such equipment is vital for improving maternal and child healthcare outcomes. She further appealed to other corporate bodies and the community to follow suit in supporting the hospital’s mission.
Concurrently, in the Upper East Region, Hon. Nikyema Billa Alamzy provided a financial injection of GH¢14,000 to facilitate the completion of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in Kazugu. This project, which was initiated by the local community to improve healthcare access in the constituency, had stalled due to funding challenges. The MP’s contribution was warmly received by residents, who described it as a pivotal moment for the project’s success. Hon. Alamzy reiterated his dedication to regional development, stating that ensuring quality health services remains a top priority for his office.
These independent yet thematic interventions underscore the essential role of private-public partnerships and community-led initiatives in sustaining Ghana's healthcare goals. As the government continues its efforts under the administration of President John Mahama to modernize health facilities, these grassroots contributions provide immediate relief and long-term stability for underserved populations. Moving forward, both beneficiaries have called for sustained maintenance and further investment to ensure these resources provide lasting benefits to their respective communities.
