PUWU Demands Action Against Illegal Takeover of Ghana Water Lands in Ashanti Region

The Public Utility Workers’ Union (PUWU) has issued a stern ultimatum to authorities regarding the illegal takeover and demolition of properties belonging to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Ashanti Region. In a recent statement, PUWU condemned the ongoing encroachment, which they argue jeopardizes public service delivery and national interests. Despite previous interventions aimed at curbing these illegal activities, private developers have continued to demolish GWCL properties and harass staff members. The Union has set a deadline of December 31, 2025, for authorities to take decisive action, warning that any disruption in water supply resulting from these illegal activities will be the responsibility of the government. PUWU emphasized that safeguarding GWCL properties is crucial for ensuring public access to potable water, highlighting the importance of protecting these assets for the community's welfare.
