The Ghana Police Service has significantly bolstered national security efforts through two major operations, resulting in the seizure of 50,000 rounds of ammunition in the Upper West Region and the arrest of 24 suspected criminals in the Ashanti Region. These intelligence-led actions reflect the Service's ongoing strategy to dismantle criminal networks and curb the flow of illegal arms and narcotics across the country. In the Upper West, officers successfully intercepted a commercial vehicle uncovering a massive cache of ammunition, while in the Ashanti Region, a coordinated swoop targeted known crime hotspots to enhance public safety. In the Upper West operation, which took place on June 29, police intercepted a commercial vehicle and discovered 200 boxes containing 50,000 AA cartridges concealed among other goods. Three suspects—Alhassan Issahaku, Iddrisu Mashood, and Alhaji Issahaku—were arrested at the scene and are currently assisting the Regional Police Command with investigations. Authorities are working to trace the source of the ammunition and determine its intended destination, with the Regional Command praising the professionalism and vigilance of the officers involved in the successful interception. Simultaneously, the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Command, conducted a major anti-crime swoop across several communities, including Kodie, Apagya, and Dechemso. The operation led to the apprehension of 24 individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and organized crime. Among the key items recovered were a pump-action shotgun found with 49-year-old Richmond Okyere, suspected narcotics, unregistered vehicles, and significant amounts of cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales. These operations underscore the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to proactive policing and the dismantling of criminal syndicates. The police have emphasized that these successes are rooted in intelligence-led strategies and have called for continued cooperation from the public in reporting criminal activities. As investigations into both cases continue, the suspects remain in custody, awaiting further legal action and profiling to determine their potential links to wider criminal networks operating within the country.
