National Union of Ghana Students Abroad to Launch Inaugural Diaspora Forum for National Development

Ghanaian students studying across the globe are set to convene for the first-ever Ghana Diaspora Students Forum (GDSF), a virtual initiative designed to bridge the gap between international academic pursuits and national development. This landmark event is organized by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) branches in Germany, the United Kingdom, and China. Under the theme "Pathways, Ecosystems and Diaspora as Development," the forum aims to leverage the vast intellectual capital and professional networks of the Ghanaian student diaspora to support the country's socioeconomic growth.

The GDSF will serve as a high-level platform for discussing critical issues such as academic mobility, career opportunities, and research collaboration. By bringing together students, policymakers, and industry experts, the forum seeks to explore how international education can be transformed into sustainable development initiatives. Key sessions will focus on entrepreneurship and the creation of ecosystems that allow students to apply their global expertise to solve local challenges within the Ghanaian economy.

Mr. Kofi Okyere-Darko, the Director of the Diaspora Affairs Office, will serve as the keynote speaker, addressing Ghana’s national policy priorities and the evolving role of students in nation-building. The program also includes panel discussions dedicated to student leadership and industry-academia partnerships, providing a space for dialogue between the next generation of Ghanaian professionals and established sectoral leaders.

The primary objective of the inaugural forum is to produce a formal communiqué featuring actionable recommendations for stakeholders in education, government, and the private sector. By establishing the GDSF as an annual event, the organizers hope to foster a permanent, worldwide network of Ghanaian student unions. This sustained collaboration is intended to ensure that the skills and insights gained by Ghanaians abroad are effectively integrated into the nation’s long-term development strategy.
