In an unconventional move to address street prostitution in Tamale, northern Ghana, National Security operatives have begun a public clean-up initiative involving women arrested for prostitution. This operation, conducted in collaboration with migration authorities, targets known hotspots within the city's central business district. The initiative aims not only to deter prostitution but also to enhance urban cleanliness. Reactions from the community are mixed; while some residents view the approach as a necessary deterrent, others question its effectiveness and whether it truly addresses the underlying issues contributing to prostitution. In addition to this initiative, authorities have intensified their crackdown on drug abuse in the region, with multiple arrests reported as concerns over youth drug use continue to rise. The Regional National Security Coordinator has indicated a commitment to working with various stakeholders to restore public order and tackle these pressing social issues.
