Daasebre Nana Atta Opusu Kwakwa Agyir V, the Chief of Gomoa Tarkwa, has cautioned parents against the practice of confronting and attacking teachers who discipline their children for misconduct. Speaking at a ceremony in Gomoa Tarkwa, the traditional leader emphasized that such actions undermine the authority of educators and hinder the overall progress of students. He called for a shift toward cooperation between the home and the school to ensure a conducive learning environment and improve educational standards in the region.
The chief's appeal was made during a significant community event where free textbooks and financial assistance were distributed to 100 tertiary students from the area. This initiative, spearheaded by the traditional authority, aims to alleviate the financial burden on families and encourage higher education among the youth of Gomoa Tarkwa. During the presentation, Nana Agyir V noted that while traditional leaders and the government are making efforts to provide resources, the discipline of students remains a critical component of academic success.
Beyond his advice to parents, Nana Atta Opusu Kwakwa Agyir V used the platform to advocate for improved educational infrastructure within the community. He specifically called on the government and non-governmental organizations to assist in the construction and equipping of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs and modern libraries. These facilities, he argued, are essential for bridging the digital divide and providing students with the tools necessary to compete in a modern economy.
The ceremony concluded with expressions of gratitude from both parents and the beneficiary students, who pledged to honor the chief’s support by excelling in their studies. By reinforcing the importance of teacher-parent collaboration and investing in educational resources, the traditional leadership of Gomoa Tarkwa seeks to set a foundation for long-term development and academic excellence in the district.
