MTN Ghana has convened a specialized training workshop in Accra to empower media practitioners and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) with the skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The session, which was also streamed to a virtual audience, focused on the practical and ethical implications of AI tools like ChatGPT in the professional sphere. By bringing together industry experts and communicators, the initiative aims to bridge the knowledge gap in emerging technologies and foster a culture of responsible innovation within Ghana's information sector.
Facilitated by a panel of tech leaders—including Samuel Adranyi, CEO of Afrilogic Solutions; Nehemiah Yelu Attigah, CEO of HatuaTech; and Kwame Manu, Senior Manager at MTN Ghana—the training delved into the nuances of effective AI prompting and data analytics. Participants were introduced to how AI can streamline research and content development while being cautioned about its limitations. The experts emphasized that while AI offers unprecedented efficiency, it requires constant human oversight to ensure that the output remains accurate and contextually relevant to the Ghanaian landscape.
A significant portion of the discourse centered on the ethical challenges posed by AI, particularly regarding data privacy and the threat of AI-induced misinformation. Media professionals and CSOs were reminded of their critical role as gatekeepers of truth, tasked with maintaining accountability in an era where automated bias can easily distort public perception. The facilitators urged attendees to remain vigilant and implement robust fact-checking protocols to distinguish between authentic reporting and synthesized content, thereby protecting the integrity of national discourse.
This training session is part of a broader strategic effort by MTN Ghana to integrate advanced digital analytics into its operations and support national development. The telecommunications giant expressed its commitment to collaborating with universities and public institutions to nurture local talent and leverage AI for data-driven policymaking. By encouraging continuous learning and curiosity, MTN Ghana aims to prepare the nation's professionals for a future where technology and human expertise work in tandem to drive social and economic progress.
