MobileMoney Fintech LTD has entered into a strategic partnership with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to broaden digital financial services for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana. The agreement, signed in Accra by Chief Executive Officer Shaibu Haruna, aims to leverage technology to enhance financial inclusion across the country. By focusing on digital tools, the collaboration seeks to address long-standing barriers that small businesses face in accessing formal financial systems.
Under the terms of the agreement, the initiative will target approximately 18,000 MSMEs with a specific focus on supporting businesses led by women and the youth. The project aims to catalyze roughly GH₵11.7 million in financial resources by June 2027. This capital injection is intended to stimulate local economic activity and provide a safety net for smaller operators who are often underserved by traditional banking institutions. The partnership aligns with broader national efforts to formalize the informal sector through digital innovation.
Participating enterprises will gain access to a suite of financial products, including digital savings accounts and micro-loans tailored to their specific needs. Beyond direct financial support, the program will provide essential business training to help entrepreneurs manage their finances more effectively and scale their operations. This holistic approach is designed to ensure that the growth of MSMEs is sustainable and resilient in the face of changing market dynamics.
The collaboration comes at a time when mobile money adoption in Ghana is reaching record levels, providing a fertile ground for digital-first financial solutions. By integrating UN expertise in trade and development with MobileMoney Fintech LTD’s local reach, the partners hope to create a replicable model for financial empowerment. As the project rolls out over the next three years, it is expected to play a significant role in narrowing the credit gap and fostering inclusive economic growth.
