The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has announced a strategic expansion of employment and vocational opportunities for young people in the Western North Region. During a courtesy call on the Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, Basintale reaffirmed the agency's dedication to tackling unemployment through localized interventions. He emphasized that these efforts are central to the "Reset Agenda" of President John Mahama, which prioritizes job creation and economic revitalization as the primary drivers for national progress.
Highlighting the agency's recent milestones, Basintale disclosed that the YEA has already successfully deployed over 9,000 young individuals into various sanitation initiatives. This program aims to address environmental sanitation challenges while providing consistent income for the youth. Additionally, he noted that approximately 30,000 young Ghanaians are currently benefiting from diverse skills training modules designed to equip them with the technical expertise required for the modern job market. These programs are intended to move beyond temporary relief by providing sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship and specialized craftsmanship.
The CEO underscored the importance of strong partnerships with local government authorities to ensure the success of these initiatives. By collaborating with the Regional Minister and local assemblies, the YEA aims to tailor its programs to the specific economic needs and industrial potential of the Western North Region. Basintale maintained that empowering the youth is a vital component of regional development, suggesting that a skilled and employed workforce is the most effective way to foster long-term social and economic stability.
In response, Regional Minister Wilbert Petty Brentum welcomed the agency's renewed commitment, noting that youth engagement is critical to the region's growth. The YEA’s roadmap for the Western North includes further diversification of its training modules to include digital skills and agricultural value-chain support. As the agency continues to implement these programs under President Mahama’s administration, the focus remains on ensuring that the dividends of the Reset Agenda are felt tangibly by the youth in every district across the region.
