MobileMoney Fintech’s Makafui Mattah Urges University Students to Supplement Degrees with Digital and Practical Skills

Makafui K. Mattah, Senior Manager for Financial Operations at MobileMoney Fintech Ltd, has called on university students to look beyond their academic certificates and embrace practical and digital skills to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving job market. Speaking at the 2026 National Youth Mentorship Summit held at the University of Ghana, Mr. Mattah emphasized that while a degree may provide entry into professional circles, it is an individual's specific skill set that ensures career longevity and success. He highlighted that modern employers are increasingly prioritizing problem-solvers who can demonstrate tangible competencies over those who simply hold traditional academic credentials.

Central to Mr. Mattah’s address was the critical importance of digital literacy in the contemporary workforce. He identified artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and cybersecurity as essential domains that graduates must master, regardless of their specific field of study. To bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry requirements, he urged students to maximize the use of free online learning platforms and seek out internships with a serious mindset. Beyond technical expertise, the Senior Manager underscored the value of interpersonal skills, which he noted are indispensable for navigating professional environments and collaborating effectively.

Addressing the frequent complaints regarding job scarcity in Ghana, Mr. Mattah challenged students to pivot from lamenting the lack of opportunities to actively preparing themselves for existing roles that require specialized expertise. His sentiments were echoed by Albert Prempeh Kusi, CEO of LEC Group, who also addressed the summit. Mr. Kusi encouraged the youth to embrace a culture of innovation and consider the capital market as a viable avenue for wealth building and securing future entrepreneurial ventures. The summit served as a platform to remind the next generation of Ghanaian professionals that proactive skill development and financial literacy are the true cornerstones of economic independence in the digital age.
